Virtual Trails Education Days Nature Hike
As naturalist “Tracker Rob” Remedi makes his way down the Wildwood Canyon Trail, he encounters plants, animals and geological features that are part of the fourth grade science curriculum. His folksy discussion of these is entertaining as well as educational.
This video was produced by the Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF) to offer the Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) fourth graders a virtual nature hike when the annual Trails Education Days hikes were canceled due to the COVID-19 lockdown in the spring of 2020. It will also be useful in future years for students who are unable to attend their field trip, and it will be a valuable training tool for new volunteer hike leaders.
COSF thanks Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) Ranger Ryan Stead, Park Superintendent Matt Kouba, Head Ranger Bruce Pace and Ranger Nick Ferrari for their help in making the video possible. Rob Remedi has been selfless with his time as the Trails Education Days lead naturalist through more than two decades. He has played a major role in the program’s success and will continue to do so in future years.
Most of all, we greatly appreciate Ian Robertson for his skill and vision. Ian created the video from the planning phase to the final credits, and the results speak to his high level of professionalism. Thank you, Ian!
