Conejo Canyons Moderate Hike – Western Plateau Loop from Conejo Center Dr
This is a moderate 5-mile hike with about 770′ of climbing, starting in Newbury Park. Along the way you will see all the sites this area has to offer – the grasslands of the Western Plateau, verdant Hawk Canyon and more distant volcanic cliffs and mountains.
Park in the dirt lot on Conejo Center Drive next to the Municipal Service Center and start down the Western Plateau Edison Road. At the bottom of the hill, turn right onto the Hawk Canyon Trail and follow it to Hill Canyon Trail, staying on the southeast side of the stream until the trail dead-ends into the Hill Canyon Trail, where you turn left and follow it 200 yards, then turn left again and head up the hill on the Western Plateau Edison Rd. Follow it for a mile and then turn left onto the informally named Hawk Canyon Rim Trail. Continue 0.8 miles before rejoining the Western Plateau Edison Rd, where you turn left. In only 200 feet, turn left again onto the Peninsula Trail and follow it to the bottom where it rejoins the Western Plateau Edison Road. Turn left and follow the road 0.9 miles to the bottom and up to the top and the parking area.
Exit the 101 Freeway in Thousand Oaks at Rancho Conejo Blvd and follow it north for 1.9 miles. Turn left onto Conejo Center Drive and after 0.2 miles you will find the dirt parking area on the right.
